Silvie Cheng
Currently studying piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, Silvie is first time back in Ottawa for the American Thanksgiving holiday. Having been playing with her brother for the past 8 years, she is happy to be back again. Silvie began her piano studies at age 5. At age 16, she obtained her Associate Diploma in Piano Performance (ARCT) from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. She won first place in the Diploma level of piano at the 2007 Ontario Provincial Music Association Competition, and she has been the 2nd prize winner four times at the National Finals of the Canadian Music Competition. Silvie has won numerous prizes and scholarships reflecting her high standing, including those at the Ottawa Kiwanis, Ontario, and National Music Festivals. In 2007, she gave a solo recital at the National Arts Centre, and made her debut performances at the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival and the Orford Music Festival in Quebec. A versatile musician, Silvie is the collaborative pianist for her cellist brother, with whom she frequently gave performances, as well as a founding member of the piano trio, Trio con Brio, which won first prize in Chamber Music at the 2008 National Music Festival and gave a performance at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton. Silvie has organized and performed several fundraising concerts for local charities in Ottawa, raising over $27,000 to support various causes.
